A workshop to explore and integrate yogic breathing techniques and bandhas into your yoga practice.
Sat 9th Oct 2021 ~ 3pm to 5pm (2hrs)
Cost £25.
Join Alex over the autumn for a series of workshops - "The Five Pranas and the Breath".
We'll look at exploring and integrating yogic breathing techniques and bandhas (energetic seals or locks) into your yoga practice. The monthly sessions will include different types of asana (postures) that move from fluid and energising to static-dynamic and stillness.
Prana means ‘vital force’ and ayama means ‘expansion’ so pranayama means ‘expansion of the vital force’. We will learn about the five different pranic forces in the body (prana, udana, samana, vyana and apana) and how they relate to our breathing.
Working gently, intelligently and consistently with breathing techniques can help treat chronic physical ailments of the respiratory, circulatory and nervous systems. Conditions of debility, weak immunity as well as anxiety and depression can all benefit from these practices. Bandhas in particular are an integral part of concentrating the life force in the body.
These workshops are suitable for any student wishing to deepen an existing yoga practice of at least 6 months to a year. There will be modifications given for newer students or for anyone with a pre-existing injury or condition.
The series has been designed sequentially but the first two can be taken as stand-alone workshops.
Sat 9 Oct -- Mula Bandha and the Pelvis
Sat 6 Nov -- Uddiyana Bandha and the Navel
Sat 4 Dec -- Jalandhara & Maha Bandhas and the Throat & Heart
