Have you ever wondered how the music of your favorite movie was made? What does a composer think about when creating a musical theme or what the collaborative process between filmmaker and composer looks like? What is in the creation of soundtracks that you recognize from just a few notes? Dive into the world of Hollywood music with the upcoming Music in Cinema Lecture to find those answers.
On April 16, 2025 at 5:30 PM the MSO is proud to be hosting three fantastic guests to answer your questions about the role music plays in film making and how a film finds its unique sound. With moderator Shelly Strong, Former Executive Vice President at DreamWorks, music producer Julie Sessing (I am Number Four, Real Steel, The Manchurian Candidate) and film composer Simon Taufique (The Land of Gold, Imperium, The Interpreters) will zoom in to explain how they approach scoring a film and the collaborative process behind the music in your favorite films.

Hagerstown Community College is located southeast of Hagerstown on a 300-plus acre site at 11400 Robinwood Drive. The College may be reached from U.S. 40 and from Maryland Route 64. The campus is approximately 2.5 miles from downtown Hagerstown and is easily accessible from Interstates 81 and 70.
From Pennsylvania:
Follow Interstate 81 South. Take Exit 6A to Route 40 East and proceed through the downtown area of Hagerstown passing through the city square and onto Dual Highway. Turn left onto Mount Aetna Road next to Pizza Hut. Turn left at the second traffic light onto Robinwood Drive. After the second traffic light, follow the roundabout onto the HCC campus.
From West Virginia:
Follow Interstate 81 North. Take Exit 4 to Interstate 70 East. Take Exit 32B to Hagerstown turning right at the first traffic light onto Edgewood Drive. Pass through three traffic lights and then follow the roundabout onto the HCC campus.
From Frederick, Maryland and points East:
Follow Interstate 70 West. Take Exit 32B to Hagerstown turning right at the first traffic light onto Edgewood Drive. Pass through three traffic lights and then follow the roundabout onto the HCC campus.
From Clear Spring, Maryland and points West:
Follow Interstate 70 East. Take Exit 32B to Hagerstown turning right at the first traffic light onto Edgewood Drive. Pass through three traffic lights and then follow the roundabout onto the HCC campus.
