Tuesday, June 11 - "Days with Dad"
Nari’s dad may be in a wheelchair, but that’s never stopped them from having wonderful times together. Her dad can’t walk, and regrets what he is unable to do because of his reliance on a wheelchair. Nari makes it clear that there’s nothing to feel bad about. Whether they’re sitting on the beach building a sandcastle or drinking hot cocoa and watching the rain, what she loves are the things they can do together! Join us as we create a special one-of-a-kind Father’s Day craft, and a craft for Flag Day, too!
Saturday, June 15 - "My Family Plays Music"
It’s Music Appreciation Month! My Family Plays Music is a beautiful story about a young girl who comes from a diverse musical family. From a great-grandmother who plays an organ at church to an aunt who plays vibes with a jazz combo. She tries out lots of instruments so she can play with her whole family! Do you enjoy music? Do you play an instrument? Do you know anyone who does? Join us on our beautiful terrace as we share a story about a family of music-loving musicians! We’re also making our very own African Kalimba instrument!
Tuesday, August 6 - "Rosa's Sunflower Experiment"
Rosa’s group of friends want to learn all about growing their own sunflowers! The industrious team of children fill pots with soil, tenderly plant seeds and then carefully label and position their plants. As they go along, they research and discuss the process – how seeds germinate, what they need to thrive and how they will benefit the insect community. Eventually their efforts pay off and they can admire their row of glorious golden sunflowers. We will visit Farmer Ben for a fun time in the garden!
Tuesday, August 20 - "Home Is..."
What makes a home home? From mountain to sea, meadow to tree, small town to big city, people and animals make their homes all over the world. Some are forever while some change with the seasons, but all are just right for the creatures who live in them. Can you find where the animals live in our historic eighteenth-century garden? Join us in creating a unique animal habitat craft – AND bring your favorite stuffed animal!
Tuesday, September 3 - "The Truth About Grandparents"
We’re celebrating Grandparents Day! Grandparents are slow. Grandparents are scared of new things. And grandparents definitely don’t dance — right? Though they may look over the hill, with “wrinkly faces, a little bit of hair, and funny teeth,” this set of grandparents is anything but. They are far from “not much fun,” “slow,” and “not bendy;” rather, with their grandchild, they go on daring roller-coaster rides, enjoy the roller rink, do yoga, play in a lively jazz band, dance, and take part in nighttime stargazing. Create a special craft for your grandparents or someone special to you!
