Mr Charles was an eccentric character who travelled to Dublin in 1742, and attempted to make a fortune through putting on performances of Handel's music, while the composer himself was in the city. This performance reconstructs a concert given in Smock Alley Theatre in May 1742. It features Handel's 'Water Music' (Walsh arrangement), Overture to Il Pastor Fido and Concerto Grosso Op.3 No.3, as well as a Concerto for oboe, chalumeau and flute by Hasse. We also hear Duets for horn by Mr Charles himself, which we believe he performed with his wife, on their travels as a family!

Join the IBO with star soloists Nicola Boud, Anneke Scott and Miriam Kaczor, as Mr Charles' programme is reconstructed in Dublin Castle!

Handel Overture to Il Pastor Fido HWV 8c, Water Musick (Walsh edition), Concerto Grosso Op.3 No.3, 'Va Tacito'
