FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“Downright brilliant. When was the last time you met a new play that was so smart it made your head spin?”
The New York Times
Yes, THAT Mr. Burns.
Bas Bleu Theatre Company of Fort Collins is elated to announce the opening mainstage production of its 33rd season, Mr. Burns, by award-winning playwright Anne Washburn, with music by Michael Friedman and lyrics by Anne Washburn. This play is an exhilarating tale of survival, community, and the enduring power of The Simpsons, directed by Associate Artistic Director Steve Keim, helmsman of last season's hilarious romp, The School For Lies, with music direction by Brett Schreiber.
In a not-so-distant future where the grid has failed and society has crumbled, a ragtag group of survivors comes together around a campfire to create their vanished world by telling stories under the stars. Part post-apocalyptic roller coaster ride, part light opera musical, Mr. Burns traces the re-emergence of civilization, when memory is the new currency and theatre is the new social media.
Whether you've never seen The Simpsons or you know every episode by heart, you will thrill to this animated exploration of how the pop culture of one era evolves into the mythology of another.
Join us for this decade's hopping dark comedy full four-fingered evil clowns, singing and dancing, heartbreak and passion, and the funkiest stage band of 2107.
Mr. Burns will be presented September 19th through October 12th at Bas Bleu Theatre, 401 Pine Street at Willow in Fort Collins. Performances begin on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and at 2:30 p.m. for the Sunday matinees.
The Gallery Bleu lobby and Bar Bleu open a half hour before curtain. Concessions, non-alcoholic beverages, beer, and wine are available for purchase to enjoy beforehand or during the performance. We ID all alcohol sales.
Tickets: $20/adult, $18/military and of responders, $10/student, $6/Low income (please contact the box office for details about this rate). There will be a Pay-What-You-Will/preview performance on Friday, September 19th.
