Anne Washburn's imaginative dark comedy is an animated exploration of how the pop culture of one era might evolve into the mythology of another.Act 1 follows a group of survivors a year after the electric grid has gone down and nuclear explosions have occurred throughout the country. They pass the time remembering Simpson's episodes and other elements of pop culture.
Act 2 is set seven years later, when that group of survivors has formed a theater troupe that recreates Simpson's episodes and commercials.
Act 3 is set seventy-five years after *that*. No one living has seen an episode of the Simpsons, but they create a dramatic retelling of the Cape Feare episode of the Simpsons.
Tickets can be purchased at the door or at shawanotheater.ludus.com they are $15 for adults and $10 for students.
Performances run October 10, 11, 17, and 18 at 7pm and October 12 and 19 at 2pm.
PLEASE NOTE:
There will be a short break between Acts 1 and 2 to reset the stage. We will show projections of the episodes and movies discussed in the first act. We will have a regular intermission between acts 2 and 3. All of the acts are around 40-45 minutes each.
There is some moderate language, dark themes, and violence in this show. We will be using fake guns and knives onstage. Recommended for middle school and up. Viewer discretion is advised.
It is not required to watch anything ahead of time to enjoy this show. However, in order to get all of the inside jokes, we do recommend watching the Simpson's Cape Fear episode ahead of time if possible (there are also several references to the Robert DeNiro Cape Fear).
