About this Event
We are a TEAM united by spirit. Our squad is composed of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, both young and old, male and female. While we admire the athleticism of high-flying stunts and tumbling, our focus is on something more profound: the power of encouragement. We cheer loudly for our friends, dance with joy, perform energetic routines, and inspire the crowd.
Beyond the fun, we prioritize health. Our physical activity keeps us fit, our mental focus sharpens through routines and motions, and our hearts are filled with the joy of doing what we love.
We cheer! We learn routines, chants, and modified, safe stunts that adhere to Special Olympics Cheerleading Rules and Cheerabilities guidelines.
We perform! We take our talents to Special Olympics events, traditional sporting events, and community gatherings. After all, who doesn't love a cheering squad?
We compete! Our goal is to participate in two competitions annually. While Special Olympics Tennessee doesn't currently host cheerleading competitions, there are numerous local opportunities in the Nashville area, and some states even offer Special Olympics cheerleading competitions.
Schedule
We will cheer on Saturday Mornings from 9:00-10:30 each week of the MPDP Basketball Season. We will have Practice from 9:00-9:45 and then cheer during the first game of the Basketball League.
