This new series brings contemporary films, including documentaries and narrative movies, each emphasizing the diversity nd expressiveness of Brazilian cinema. In Portuguese with English subtitles, the program begins with a spoken introduction to provide context and enhance the audience's understanding of the film. Following the screening, the curator will moderate a short debate. Whenever possible, the film's director will join the discussion via Zoom. this is a rare opportunity to interact with the creative mind behind the film. Rodrigo Torres, a Brazilian film curator based in the SF Bay Area, curator for this series, holds a Bachelor of Arts in cinema and an MFA in Visual Arts. He began his career in the camera department on movie sets and worked as a curator and film programmer for the State Department of Culture at the renowned Cine BrasÃlia movie theater. In partnership with the State Department of Education, Rodrigo organized special screenings for students of all ages. He also served as the General media Coordinator, contributing public policies for financing film productions and exhibitions. In California, he has worked as an assistant manager at the Aquarius Theatre and as a juror for the United Nations Association Film Festival.
