"A masterpiece! Children will respond happily to it, but it is the adult audience that will most appreciate this multi-faceted array of wit, graphic elegance, and charm... Grimault (...) 'has a genius for detail and his backgrounds are marvelously rich – teeming with invention like a frame from a Jacques Tati comedy.” – Lenny Borger, Variety
“An animated gem! A richly conceived treat! Draws on classic modes that came before it and anticipates the Japanese animation that followed... (...)Draws on Fritz Lang and perhaps Disney from the great era of Snow White.” – Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
