Come along for dinner and conversation from 6.00 PM onwards. At 7.30 we will have a linked introduction to the documentary, James Randi in Australia. Lifetime member of Australian Skeptics Inc, and host of The Skeptic Zone Podcast, Richard Saunders will join us via Zoom to introduce the documentary and enlighten guests about the specifics behind what is a most unique digital reconstruction. Filmed in 1980, the 45 minute film covers the journey of James Randi to Australia to oversee scientific testing of water diviners (dowsers), who were offered the added incentive of $40,000 from four different potential donors. Randi was brought over by Dick Smith who commissioned the original project which was screened on Australian TV.
Test terms were agreed upon by both diviners and skeptics and strident efforts went into ensuring a double blind test took place. The diviners are 100% convinced they have this skill. What does testing reveal? Does testing alter the beliefs of water diviners?
