Workshop 1: Rhythmic Distortion w/ mixtamotus
Rhythmic Distortion is 50-minute class exploring contemporary dance techniques through Distortion Methods of the body such as fragmenting the body, twisting body parts, and challenging one’s movement patterns, and explore the rhythms that exists in the body and around the world. This contemporary dance class begins with a more traditional stretch and strengthening warm-up before exploring the unfamiliar. This class guides participants through a movement experience that challenges movers to expand their awareness and appreciation for the beauty of dance and share new possibilities of how to generate movement. Participants leave with videos from class.

mixtamotus (mm) is a multidisciplinary art collective led by Artistic Directors Martheya Nygaard and Reyna Mondragon. mm creates in collaboration with co-founders Joel Olivas (interactive multimedia designer), Lucas Reader (composer), photographer Corey Haynes, and dancers Cherokee Bennett, Annalise Boydston, Tkeyah Cleveland, Alyssa Knapschaefer, and Hailey Summers among others. mm redefines the possibilities for connecting and creating art by blurring the lines between movement, music, and media. mm presents performer-specific works that interact and manipulate the digital, social, and auditory environments in which they preside. mm further explores the unique connection between live and digital art forms as they utilize human and machine interaction to offer exciting perspectives, challenge societal norms, and represent what is possible when venturing into the unknown.
