CALL for physical theatre actors, dancers, and movement performers!
Matyas Marofka, Artistic Director of Ladder Art Company from Hungary, will lead a movement theatre workshop at TEATR BRAMA as part of Festival Bramat with 2084 Project that was selected for the European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists (EFFEA) grant in partnership with Istanbul Fringe Festival (Turkey) and Wintewerft Festival (Germany).
During the 5-day intensive workshop from August 24th to 29th, selected participants will work on different physical theatre and actor training exercises that aim to develop non-verbal means of expression, qualities of movement, ensemble awareness, and physical incorporation of character work. The training exercises are based on the works and approaches of J. Grotowski, M. Chekhov, J. Lecoq, the Viewpoints, and different physical theatre practices with the usage of movement-based theatre training.
As a result of intense theatre work, a workshop presentation will take place at the BRAMAT Festival on the 31st of August as part of the festival program. The project developed with the partnership of three different festivals in Europe will give the participants the unique opportunity to both learn, develop and perform in an international festival.

About the project
2084 Project aims to work on a theater performance structure called 2084 – the Arrival of the Golden Age. The production is a nonverbal, movement-based, physical, and visual theater performance on the theme of climate change directed by Matyas Marofka. The performance refers to George Orwell’s novel (1984), explores the likely consequences of social and environmental change in the 21st century, and tells a fictional, utopian, and symbolic story. It strives to react to the current challenges of climate change demonstrating how global warming and related threats affect our present and future.
The story of the performance structure is inspired by the Polish drama Na pełnym morzu (Out at See) by Sławomir Mrożek. Similar to the biblical story of the Arc of Noah, a group of archetypal animals as refugees from various problems caused by climate change are traveling on a raft of plastic rubbish at the open sea in the year 2084. They are symbolizing humans from different countries forced to be together defencelessly.
Proposing a performance structure and movement-based artistic expression, Matyas Marofka will visit festivals including BRAMAT FESTIVAL to work with local performers. During a 5-day intensive workshop, participants will be offered different physical theatre and movement-based training exercises to develop their nonverbal means of expression. Alongside physical theatre training, the group will work on transcultural, universal bodily, and gestural expressions, while incorporating animal characters through physical embodiment. The work with local performers as co-creators will give the chance for the offered performance structure to be reshaped and improved. In this way, the development of workshop-based artistic creation will be added to the following residencies.
