In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the holiday that marks his birthday as a National Day of Service, the 2026 “Movement Rooted in Love Day” will take place on Monday, January 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., hosted by the First United Methodist Church, 615 Broadway in Baraboo. The theme for this year’s event is Infinite Hope, taken from the words of Dr. King:
"We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope."
While the event is free and open to the public, donations of toilet paper for the Baraboo Food Pantry and nonperishable food for veterans will be collected throughout the event.
From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., there will be free opportunities for all ages and all abilities to engage in community service and fellowship, including creating pieces of community art, baking cookies to give to first responders and others, making sleeping mats out of plastic grocery bags for the unhoused, helping in the church’s Neighborly free clothing store, and more. The community is invited to stop in for a short while or for the entire day.
At noon, there will be a free soup lunch. Free coffee and hot chocolate will be served throughout the day.
A free Movement Rooted in Love Day concert will be held in the church’s sanctuary at 6:00 p.m., featuring speakers and musicians with messages to inspire hope.
The concert will also be livestreamed on the Baraboo First United Methodist Church’s Facebook page.
