Movement Lab: Mullumbimby What invisible thread do we follow that allows our movement practice to unfold ?
How do we open up to the ‘group body’ while remaining connected to the richness of our own embodied enquiry?
How do we relate articulately to time and space to create momentary compositions-alone and with others?
What is the ‘language’ of physical improvisation and how does it support our moment-by-moment choices?
Every movement lab is entirely unique and covers different terrains, but these are some of the questions underlying the practice.
Drawing on principles from dance improvisation, Body-Mind Centering®, physical theatre, contemporary dance, , and the Viewpoints Method, Movement Lab provides participants with a tool kit for a movement practice that supports awareness, fluidity of movement and depth of embodiment.
Grounded in curiosity and deep listening to our own body, the other participants, and the space itself, we will explore a range of solo, partnered and group exercises and improvisational scores.
Areas of focus will include:-
- The senses as pathways into moving and inhabiting our bodies.
- Deepening of relationship with time and space as compositional allies.
- Ensemble practice that is generous, sensitive and playful.
- The creation of dance &theatre improvisation that is poetic and truthful, without needing to entertain/be ‘interesting’!
This workshop is suitable for anyone with an interest in movement, as well as for dancers, actors and practitioners who wish to infuse their practice with new pathways for spontaneity, freedom and receptivity.
NO PRIOR DANCE OR THEATRE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED! Shyness and awkwardness are very welcome and will be treated with care and respect.
