Have you ever wondered why people wear black to funerals? Or how did people in the Victorian era mourn the loss of their loved ones? On October 12, reenactor and historian Thomas Bailey will be exhibiting his extensive collection of mourning items, including dresses, jewelry, and more, for visitors to explore and learn more about funeral customs and how some of the mourning traditions from the past are still practiced today. In addition, the site staff will discuss the mourning items and hair jewelry currently on display in the CSS Neuse Museum. Visitors will also have the opportunity to try traditional funeral cookies.
