Staghorn ferns are a genus of about 18 species of ferns known for their unique leaf shape and growth habit. These epiphytic plants grow on the sides and crooks of trees in nature. They sprout large, antler-shaped leaves and basal fronds that laminate against the growth surface to protect the roots from damage and dehydration. These amazing plants have been on Earth for over 360 million years - longer than the dinosaurs and most land-dwelling animals. In this workshop, we will be mounting a fern to a live edge "tree cookie" with sphagnum moss to mimic the epiphytic grown habit. We will also discuss watering, care, and long-term maintenance of your mounted fern.
Class participants will receive 10% off any purchases after the class.
Participants in this class must be age 10 or older, and should have reasonable dexterity for handling tools and substrates. Participants under the age of 18 must attend with a parent or adult caretaker, although they may share a registration and can work on one terrarium together. (Please select "Adult Companion for <18 Participant" as an option so we know to set out an extra chair.) Adults attending in pairs may also work on a project together with the purchase of a second seat to cover instruction fees (no supplies). All cancellations with at least 48 hours notice will receive a refund in the form of an e-gift card to the shop. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice and no-shows will not be refunded.
