About this Event
Mother Tongue meets every Wednesday morning 10am to 11.30am during school term time. The group brings people who enjoy making together to share craft skills and benefit from spending time with each other and enjoying making with their hands.
Mother Tongue is open to women with English as an additional language.
Come with your own craft project or don't bring anything at all and be inspired what materials and skills are on hand within the group. Each term a group project is set and you can decide to take part or work on your own craft.
Yarn, materials and needles are available and participants are also welcome to bring their own.
This term's group/community project is knitting items for the Royal Berkshire Hospital - Voluntary Services and Innocent Smoothie hats for Age UK.
Mother Tongue welcomes all skill levels welcome from beginner to experienced. This is not a taught workshop although the group is alway very happy to share their craft skills and knowledge.
You do not need to commit to coming every week. Drop in anytime between 10am and 11.30am any Wednesday during term time.
To allow our workshops to be accessible to all we are able to offer our workshops for a nominal fee and we have a limited number of free places for each session. If you are able we have created different pay grades or an option to donate. All donations help us to continue our work to make space for art for everyone every day.

Find us in our next space on the 1st Floor in Broad St Mall. We are the last unit nearest the public toilets.

We are a small team working behind the scenes answering your questions. If you email us via eventbrite or via our website we will answer as soon as we can.
Where are you based?
Our studios are located within Broad St Mall. You can find us on the first floor. We are the last unit before the toilets and exit to the carpark. If you get lost please ask any Broad St Mall security guard and they will direct you.
Sometimes our workshops take place in the community. Be sure to check the address on your ticket.
What if I cannot make my Mother Tongue session, I am going to be late or need to leave early?
You do not have to attend every week. Drop in anytime between 10am and 11.30am. Be sure to check the date when you able to return as Mother Tongue only runs during the school term times (Mother Tongue does not run during the School Holidays and School Half Term Holidays)
If I cannot make my paid workshop, can I transfer my ticket to another event or get a refund?
Mother Tongue relies on donations and when booking your space their is a option to donate. This session is funded by Berkshire Community Foundation.
Our free community workshops and festival workshops are often made possible due to funding by the organisers. These workshops are popular and run at capacity. If you have selected a free ticket and are no longer able to attend please return your ticket so it is able to go to people on our waiting list.
