About this Event

Rhizomes are small gatherings hosted by embers of the Alternate ROOTS community. these gatherings are intended to facilitate connection among artists, ROOTers, their community members, and those interested in the ROOTS mission. Interested in hosting a rhizome? email membership@alternateroots.org to learn more.
The event is a work-in-progress performance piece that is part of ROOTers Laura Yohualtlahuiz's exploration as a cultural organizer and narrative strategist exploring new territories of art-making for the movement as she delves into script writing as a new skill. This rhizome is part of a mutli-city workshop tour of their region in the South including Texas & Louisiana. This work-in-progress is a continuation to their offering at the Sankofa Seeds themed ROOTS Week 2024.
This rhizome will invite audience to engage in a Q&A moderated by fellow ROOTer, Ms. Dianne Green so that Laura and the performance ensemble can grow this work into a full production play in Year 2. This rhizome explores themes that support a narrative of decentering colonial languages and exploring collective art makings as vehicles for liberatory artistic praxis of our Mother Tongues in honor of International Day of the Mother Tongue.
