In an effort to connect younger singers to the beauty of a cappella Renaissance singing, NOVA Ensemble will take its October 2023 debut program, “Motets and Madrigals: England,” to Epworth United Methodist Church in Toledo, Ohio to provide younger singers (grades 9-12 in particular) with the opportunity to learn a portion of the repertoire of the “Motets and Madrigals” program, and then perform alongside the professional ensemble in a culminating concert.NOVA Ensemble’s “Motets and Madrigals: England” program celebrates the mastery of the English Renaissance, taking a journey through Latin motets, English madrigals, and sacred English anthems. Performed in Epworth United Methodist Church, located in Ottawa Hills, Ohio, the concert includes works by William Byrd, Thomas Morley, John Wilbye, Richard Farrant, and Orlando Gibbons. The program concludes with folk song arrangements by Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst.
Program is approximately 70 minutes, without intermission.
Admission is FREE and the seating is open.
Funding for singer compensation is provided by the Quire Cleveland Community Grants Initiative.
