In this workshop, you'll have the chance to create a beautiful glass art piece inspired by stained glass windows, using black powder glass made from tiny shards of sheet glass. Students will blend transparent and opal colors in their plate designs, while also enjoying the freedom to select any color variations that resonate with them. Each participant will be provided with a 4" glass bowl or plate to customize. I will learn how to thoughtfully arrange small glass tiles to achieve depth in my creation, then fill in the gaps with additional glass to resemble grout, even though everything is made of glass.
The workshop will also explore subjects like glass chemistry, firing temperatures, and the behavior of glass under heat. Given that the kiln firing process can take up to 50 hours, you will return later to collect my finished masterpiece. This workshop welcomes beginners who are new to working with glass.
