About the project, you will be creating:
This piece was first created and inspired by artist Jon Shaw
Jon’s work documents the metamorphosis of cluttered urban spaces. Recreated as illustrative ink and acrylic paintings on wood, the work memorializes the ongoing transformation of familiar locales, often overlooked in our daily routines. It celebrates crumbly detritus, dumpsters, graffiti, and discarded objects.
His pieces combine complex ink lines with transparent layers of acrylic, harmoniously blending spontaneous marks with detailed structure. These techniques, fueled by the narrative between person and place, results in unique work that celebrates the interactive relationship between environment and inhabitant.
Jon Shaw is a full-time visual artist based in St. Catharines, Ontario. He is known for his playful approach to urban cityscapes and colourful depictions of nature using ink markers and acrylic paint.
