8PM Show (7:30 doors)All ages ($20 adv, $25 door)
BYOB from Sleepwalker!
Morgan Harris (guitar, voice) and Cameron DeWhitt (banjo, voice) are two leading queer voices in the current old time music scene. Often seen playing together as two thirds of Tall Poppy String Band, they each have projects of their own: Morgan’s recent album Alone Will Tell (her first as an out trans musician) is a reflection on exploring one’s identity through the folk process, while Cameron’s long running podcast Get Up in the Cool engages its guests in conversations (both verbal and musical) about what it means to belong to a musical tradition. For this show they will each present a solo set of tunes and songs highlighting their individual approaches to their instruments, before joining forces in musical dialogue to close out the night.

Cameron DeWhitt (they/them) is a clawhammer banjoist and Old Time musician living in Portland, Oregon. They play banjo and sing with Morgan Harris and George Jackson as Tall Poppy String Band, whom Country Queer dubbed “an old-timey, queer supergroup.” They are also the host of Get Up in the Cool, a weekly old time music and interview podcast, featuring conversations and musical collaborations with today’s most influential traditional musicians, such as Jake Blount, Laurel Premo, Tatiana Hargreaves, Bruce Molsky, Adam Hurt, and Dirk Powell. When they’re not performing or podcasting, they produce the online video instructional series PitchforkBanjo.com and teach private lessons and workshops online and in-person in their home.
“Killer clawhammer banjo (for real, [they] can seriously pick)... I’m off to do my homework tomorrow and listen to a lot more from Cameron DeWhitt! You should too.”
— Devon Leger, KITHFOLK
“Cameron DeWhitt, at the age of 28 [is] already among the finest clawhammer banjo players alive.”
— R.D. Eno, Banjo Newsletter

Morgan Harris (she/they) is a Colorado-based guitarist specializing in traditional North American stringband (or ‘old time’) music. In contrast to the purely accompanying role the guitar often occupies in this space, Morgan’s distinctive playing technique allows the guitar to shine as an old time melody instrument, creating a rhythmic drive and a multi-layered resonance that is unique in the world of flatpicked guitar.
On Morgan’s new record Alone Will Tell, she performs a collection of traditional tunes and songs with just her guitar and voice, drawn from historic source recordings of driving fiddle breakdowns, hypnotic banjo pieces and austere mountain ballads. This is the music she has continually found herself drawn to in quiet, solitary moments, and it has been shaped by long familiarity and patient questioning. Morgan’s first release as an out trans musician, Alone Will Tell is a meditation on the transformative potential of looking inward.
