About this Event
Welcome to the More-than-human Policy Lab: Launch & Play with Clay!
Date: 29th January 2025
Location: Newcastle University, Henry Daysh Building, Room 1.11
Step into a lab where traditional boundaries between human and non-human, nature and technology, science and humanities dissolve. This lab is where cutting-edge research, diverse onto-epistemologies, species, the “force of things” (Bennett, 2004), and imagination meets policy innovation, challenging conventional anthropocentric approaches to governance and decision-making.
Throughout 2025, we're hosting an innovative series of eight one-hour workshops that will culminate in an experimental, dreamy, place-inspired, more-than-human policy "event". We welcome collaborators from all backgrounds. Led by Jennifer Cooke, Heather Proctor, and Dr Clifton Evers within the School of Arts and Cultures, the laboratory celebrates Élan vital (Bergson, 1907) and post-disciplinarity.
In our first workshop, we will brainstorm key ideas and concepts, thinking about the direction we'd like to take the policy lab in, whilst making jellyfish out of clay.
