About this Event

Saturday, September 13, 2025 | 10am-12pm

Join XIA Books, Cafe & Gallery this Saturday to celebrate the Kristen Jewel's new poetry book! More Than Half-Drowning is a poetry collection exploring the themes of sadness, anger, love, and low self-esteem. Divided into these four parts, the book delves into feeling emotions so strongly that it feels like you're physically drowning in them.

Kristen Jewel (she/her) is a spoken word poet who released her first poetry collection this year, with another one (hopefully) also on the way this year. She thinks empathy is a super-strength, loves pastel pink, and thinks pickleball might be a conspiracy.

Special Guests:

E.J. Schoenborn (they/them) is a white queer & nonbinary trans poet and puzzle designer from rural Wisconsin, though they currently live in Minneapolis, MN. Their poetry has been published by Button Poetry, Defunkt Magazine, Coffee People Zine, Voicemail Poems, Freezeray Poetry, the anthology from Moon Tide Press "Dark Ink: A Poetry Anthology Inspired By Horror," and more.

Tu the Judoka is a spoken word artist living in Midtown Minneapolis. A first-generation Asian-American of Cantonese ethnicity, his family came to the United States after escaping the Vietnam War. He represented MN at the 2017 and 2019 Rustbelt Regional Poetry Slams. Tu holds the rank shodan in judo and also a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He loves Sega Dreamcast and lays the smackdown on Jet Grind Radio!

Mollie Lacy is a nonbinary lesbian poet, proud to be living and creating art in the Twin Cities. Their poetry has appeared in Paper Darts, Typishly, Drunk in a Midnight Choir, and on Button Poetry. Their work has been presented by Pangea World Theater, Patrick's Cabaret, Word Sprout, and Mother Goose's Bedtime Stories.
