“Once in a while an album comes out that reminds us how the tenor saxophone is supposed to sound” – Jazz Times. Jeff Rupert appears on over 75 albums, 11 of those as a leader. Rupert is a featured soloist on recordings with Mel Tormé, Kevin Mahogany, Maynard Ferguson, Sam Rivers, Kenny Barron, Veronica Swift, Diane Schuur, and on Benny Carter’s Grammy winning album, Harlem Renaissance. Rupert has performed at major jazz clubs and concert halls around the world, including the Blue Note, Birdland, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. He is Distinguished Professor, Trustee Endowed Chair, and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Central Florida (UCF) and founded Flying Horse Records. Jeff Rupert authors and hosts Jazz and the American Spirit, a nationally syndicated weekly radio show on NPR, examining the connection between jazz and the American experience. Jeff will be playing music from "It Gets Better", Jeff Rupert's latest release which was on the national jazz charts for 21 weeks, cracking the top 10 for a dozen weeks. In addition, the group plays choice standards by Billy Strayhorn, and more. Joining Jeff will be Marty Morell (drums), Richard Drexler (piano), and Charlie Silva (bass).
This More Jazz Club event is for residents of The Villages and guests with a visitor pass. Doors open at 5:30pm. We have seating with tables and chairs, and you may bring your own beverage and snacks. Admission is $15 for member or $20 for non-members. Annual dues to become a member is only $10.
