Thankful for Song and Dance
Sunday, Nov. 24 | 3 p.m.
Thankful for American ragtime and German and Italian traditions, the Moraine Valley Orchestra, led by Maryann Flock, celebrates the birthdays of composer Scott Joplin (156), German opera singer Lillie Lehmann (175), and the memorial anniversary of Italian composer Puccini (100) in their Fall concert. Audiences will delight in the various sounds of Germanic and Italian singing, as well as, listen to the old but new dance craze - the Cakewalk, a high-steppin’ promenade meant to show off your “Sunday best”. Join the MVO, in this grateful-as-always festive afternoon of everything but the turkey trot.
One-Book One-Orchestra
Sunday, Apr. 27 | 3 p.m.
While not all the composers on our Spring Concert are from the 21st century, the MVO aligns its Spring concert repertoire with Moraine Valley’s One-Book One-College “Disability Visibility: First-person stories from the 21st Century”. The MVO concert will include music by composers who suffered from blindness, deafness, malformities, depression and schizophrenia: Beethoven, Delius, Bach, Molly Joyce, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, and “The Pinball Wizard” all faced adversity. Through the centuries, these musicians have been put on a pedestal or just as easily, tossed aside while dealing with their afflictions.

“Nothing like a cool midsummer’s night to “unbound” and listen to Shakespearean inspired words and music.”
