Stonehenge is famous for its alignments with the sun, but did you know that the ancient monument may have also been carefully designed to align with the movements of the Moon?
Step inside the pop-up planetarium at Stonehenge and embark on a journey through the solar system with our expert astronomer. Learn how to identify celestial objects such as stars, planets, and the Moon as we observe the night sky over the ancient stone circle.
2024 is a special year as an astronomical event called the Major Lunar Standstill approaches, a period when moonrise and moonset are furthest apart along the horizon. It is believed that at least one major standstill was marked during the early phase of Stonehenge.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Sessions will take place throughout the day and last for around 30 minutes. Please note that capacity within the planetarium is limited and at times we may ask to add your name on the waitlist for the next available session.
While you’re visiting Stonehenge, pop in and see our special exhibition in the visitor centre which focuses on the ongoing research about the Moon’s influence on this iconic site and the people who built and used it.
Included with Stonehenge admission. Book online and save 15%. English Heritage Members get free entry.
