About this Event
Join Malak Behrouznami as she explains the role that the District Attorney's Office plays in our community and her unconventional path to this career.
Malak is a Deputy District Attorney in the San Diego County District Attorney's Office, currently serving in the Appellate and Training Division. Prior to this role, she gained valuable experience in various divisions, including Family Protection, Arson, and Major Violators.
Malak's commitment to justice stems from her early experiences witnessing social injustice in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. This fueled her desire to effect positive change within her community. She graduated with honors from UC Berkeley with a degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, followed by a period of living and working as a journalist in Israel, Palestine, the East Coast, and Canada. Upon returning to San Diego, she owned and operated a successful juice bar in Point Loma before pursuing her legal education at the University of San Diego School of Law, graduating in 2018.
In 2021, during her fourth year as a prosecutor, the National District Attorney Association awarded Malak with the Jackie Lacey award for distinguishing herself amongst her peers as she seeks justice, holds offenders accountable, and protects victims' rights. Malak finds immense satisfaction in her role as a prosecutor, particularly in providing a voice for victims and upholding the principles of justice.
