Monthly Circle Singing for the Soul- with Flo

Circle Singing for the Soul - collaborative vocal improvisation to unlock innate vocal creativity, and co-create music of the moment, magic community medicine.

Circle-singing - the artform of layering melody, harmony and percussive vocal elements with a central "conductor" offering gestures and phrases to a group and interchanging leadership - is a practice made popular by a lineage of American master improvisers such as Bobby McFerrin, Rhiannon and Joey Blake - and has since been brought to the UK by a variety of practitioners. This has further developed into CVI (Collaborative Vocal Improvisation) which is a form which allows access to varying group dynamics and can open up a plethora of opportunities to explore the creation of "music of the moment" using purely vocals.

I have had the privilege of being trained by one of the UK's leading practitioners Briony Greenhill - where I have participated in "Singing the Unseen" - a year-long course where we are tapping into ancestral ways of communing with the spirit - and as collective of singers - deeply listening, dropping-in and composing responses to what we see, how we feel, what is wanting to emerge from the environment, our bodies, our souls, what is asking to be expressed through our collective attunement - to one another and to our own inner knowing.

In this group, we will begin with the basics of Collaborative Vocal Improv, and explore the structures needed to build and play and connect to each other. We will begin with deep listening, rhythm building and I will lead some Circle Songs to get us started, and invite you to conduct if you feel confident, or appreciate you if you prefer to blend. Every singer is necessary for the sound.

We will warm up with vocal exercises to support health and use movement to ensure our vessels are ready to be the instruments they are created to be.
