Join us for Montgomery County & the War of 1812 with Historian Sandy Heiler Wednesday, September 17th at 7PM in the Spring Room of the Silver Spring Civic Building. There were no battles in Montgomery County during the War of 1812; no British troops marched through the county’s streets; no rioters protested in its towns. Most residents opposed the war—Federalists, because they thought the country couldn’t afford it and couldn’t win it; Quakers, because they thought wars were immoral.
Nevertheless, Montgomery County’s streets, its towns, and, especially, its people became deeply involved in the war. This talk is about how and why that happened.
