Please join us as Dr. Brendan Cook takes us on a journey that highlights many of the remarkable achievements of the Venetian composer Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643). Using examples drawn from Monteverdi's vocal music, Dr. Cook will explain how Monteverdi developed and perfected the modern notion of melody. In contrast to the music of earlier generations, the works of Monteverdi are examples of the compelling,
memorable melodic language we associate with the golden age of Italian music.
