MONSOON IN MUGHALIA MEHRAULI - A Mughal Monsoon Retreat

Did you now Delhi has its own hill station?? That has served as a monsoon retreat from Mughals to Delhi's colonial masters!!

Mehrauli with it's vast swathes of greenery and Delhi's oldest extant village holding on to the last glories of a bygone era as its hidden treasure. This mystical mysterious place is even more beautiful in the rains!!...Located in the south-western part of Delhi on the highest point of Delhi's ancient Aravalli Hills Mehrauli has always been a very popular destination endearing itself for over 1200 years to one and all...from the early native Rajputs of the 8th Century to the English Sahibs of the 19th Century.....and even the Sufis Spirits & Djinns of Delhi!

Explore with DBF the environs of the palace of Sir Thomas Theophilius Metcalfe originally a sixteenth century Mughal tomb refurbished as 'the retreat' or 'Dilkusha' (the heart's delight).

Visit The Mughal Badshah's monsoon retreat Zafar Mahal grandly built even as the empire crumbled around it.

But like in the case of many other empires in the dawn of their power it was this period as the sun set on the "Mughaliya Hukumat" which saw a burst of cultural efflorescence. The walk is a must for history lovers photographers and Delhiites wanting to know their city better!
