His Eminence Geshe Lharampa D. Javzandorj, Chief Abbot of Gandantegchenling Monastery in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, will deliver a public lecture exploring the rich and enduring tradition of Mongolian Buddhism. As the spiritual head of Mongolia’s foremost Buddhist institution, the Khamba Lama offers a unique perspective on how Buddhism has shaped the spiritual and cultural landscape of Mongolia over centuries. His talk will trace the historical development of the faith, highlighting its philosophical foundations and the ways it has harmonized with Mongolian customs and worldview.
The lecture will delve into the distinctive features of Mongolian Buddhist practice, including its integration of ritual, art, and community life. Visitors will gain insight into how Buddhist teachings have influenced Mongolian values, aesthetics, and daily life, creating a tradition that is both contemplative and deeply rooted in the rhythms of the land. The Khamba Lama will also reflect on the role of monastic institutions as centres of learning, cultural preservation, and spiritual guidance.
Looking to the present, His Eminence will share how Mongolian Buddhism continues to evolve in a modern context, engaging with contemporary society while remaining anchored in timeless principles.
