To cover content for each week, we will not be able provide a full overview of the previous week’s lesson. If you plan to attend only the later lessons, we ask that you be comfortable with the six-count basic (slow-slow quick- quick pattern) in closed-position as we will continue to build off this during the remaining lessons.
10/7 No lesson! First Monday Jam Session!
10/14 Lesson One: Collegiate Shag Basics
We’ll be covering the basic footwork pattern for shag; a six-count pattern of slows and quicks. We will talk about pulse and scoots, how to transition from closed-position into open-position, and a side pass.
10/21 Lesson Two: Let’s Talk Transitions
We will break down a staple, the arch turn, and how to transition into side-by-side and back to closed-position. This will move us into travelling on the dance floor and collegiate kicks (side-by-side kicks).
10/28 Lesson Three: Fun Variations of Moves
How to incorporate a variation of a tuck-turn from side-by-side: the Butler turn. We will also be teaching another variation of side-by-side kicks, hesitation kicks!
>>What's a practicum and social dance?
We DJ music just like a regular social dance. You can come out and just dance like normal, or you can come planning to work on something: Ask for feedback, work on a move, play with variations, master a routine.
>>Have a specific question?
Experienced dancers and local teachers are available at practicum to help out with sticky spots.
