The 1978 FIFA World Cup Final saw The Netherlands once again face the host nation, this time Argentina, in the electric atmosphere of Buenos Aires’ Estadio Monumental. In a tense and physical battle, Argentina’s star Mario Kempes - the tournament’s top scorer - led his team to a 3–1 victory in extra time. For the Dutch, it was a second consecutive heartbreak in a World Cup Final, falling to the host country just as they had against West Germany four years earlier.
