Bring your fancy camera or your cellphone to this great little treasure at the south end of BYU campus! I absolutely LOVE this place! Come experience this beautiful 1.0-mile loop trail [generally considered an easy walking route, an average of 20 min. to complete walking… or longer if you take photos!] It is a very popular area for birding, hiking, and running, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring the trail …
(Those coming from the Sunset Heights SA1 ward building in Orem you will meet at 6:45-7:10 to CARPOOL over to our actual Meeting spot on the South/West Corner of BYU Campus.
We will Meet 7:15-7:20 PM by the base of BYU Campus South/West STAIRS located at the Y-Lot 800 N 140 East, Provo, the stairs are located across the parking lot from Brick Oven Restaurant and just south of the Tennis courts along 800 N.
From the Base of the Stairs… we will walk this absolutely beautiful brick trail that runs alongside a stream with waterfalls and a few park benches mingled along the hill of trees, just behind the BYU Smithfield house and along the south end of campus and over to the BYU Botany Pond, (800 N 400 East), by the Life Sciences building and South Campus Hill Stairs. You would never guess you were on BYU Campus!
Everyone is welcome to experience the wildlife at BYU Botany Pond. (If you feed the ducks and turtles, Please DO NOT feed them bread! It's really bad for them. You can feed them frozen peas, lettuce, rice (cooked or uncooked), oats, diced grapes, sweet corn (canned, fresh, or frozen), or duck/bird seeds).
If you are so inclined, other areas that can be explored include:
- The Demonstration Gardens just northeast of the Botany Pond (right behind the Plant Science Lab on 870 North and 500 East)
- Beautiful Walkway and Waterfall on the north end of campus just below the Centennial Carillon Bell Tower (south of North 650 East) but just along the west side of the Heritage Halls dorms and along the northeast part of the BYU Main Visitors parking lot.
