About this Event
Welcome to A Glimpse Beyond Pink!
Join Monarch Chamber Players for a special concert at Lambert Hall in honor of Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) Awareness Day.
In the United States, a staggering one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. While the month of May is widely recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and optimistically encourages prevention and early detection, the MBC community can be overlooked, as my late Aunt, Cynthia Burton, experienced. While 30% of all breast cancer eventually turns metastatic, Cynthia was part of the 5% of patients diagnosed with MBC (stage IV) from the onset.
The program offers a small glimpse into the complex world of MBC patients through music that highlights life's complexity, solace in nature, and the necessity of community. Cynthia, a commission by Nicky Sohn inspired by conversations with current patients, will be prominently featured alongside works by other living composers, including Alice Hong, Jennifer Higdon, and Anna Clyne.
This concert is funded in part by the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance, and is dedicated in loving memory of Cynthia Ann Burton. Please click here learn more about Cynthia's story or to support MBC research.
