Monarch Butterfly Spreading & Pinning Class
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to relax, spread, and pin your own Monarch butterfly using approachable, museum-style techniques. We’ll walk through specimen preparation, wing positioning, setting angles, and drying/curing so you feel confident creating framed pieces at home. By the end, you’ll have a beautifully spread Monarch on a board to finish drying, plus the know-how to frame future specimens.
What to Expect
- Brief intro to anatomy, tools, and best practices
- Demonstration of relaxing (rehydration) and safe handling
- Guided, step-by-step spreading & pinning of your Monarch
- Tips for drying/curing (24–48 hrs) and long-term preservation
- How to mount in a frame with clean, gallery-ready presentation
Supplies Provided (Included)
- Rehydration chamber setup & demo
- One Monarch specimen
- Forceps, insect pins, and a spreading board (yours to take home)
Optional Add-Ons (Purchase at Class)
- Properly sized frames with backing and adhesive/glue
- Additional mixed butterfly specimens
Skill Level
Beginner-friendly; no prior experience required.
