About this Event

This is a drop-in event; attendees are welcome to arrive at any time, however, in order to ensure attendees can get the full benefit from the event, last entry will be at 3.30pm.

Working in collaboration with Glastonbury Town Council and the Somerset Prostate Support Association (SPSA), West Mendip Primary Care Network (PCN) are holding a drop-in event that aims to advance conversations around men’s health and wellbeing, which is free to attend. MoMENtum: A Wellness Spotlight for Men will bring together various healthcare organisations and community health and wellbeing groups. Among the organisations in attendance are NHS Somerset Integrated Care Board (ICB), Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, Healthwatch Somerset, ManKind Initiative and the local Men’s Shed. West Mendip PCN will also have staff on hand to provide general advice and support, and signpost to other services.

PSA Testing

SPSA are inviting men aged 40 and over to register for a PSA test on the day. A PSA test is a blood test that measures the amount of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in your blood. The PSA tests last around 10-15 minutes and must be booked in advance at bit.ly/3Zdj7fj

As part of the ‘Take the Pressure Off’ campaign, Our Somerset will be offering free blood pressure checks for men and raising awareness about the importance of regular blood pressure monitoring. At the event, they will be raising awareness about the importance of regular blood pressure monitoring, and offering free blood pressure checks to men.

NHS Somerset Integrated Care Board (ICB) - Armed Forces Project Manager
The Armed Forces Project Manager’s role within NHS Somerset is to ensure that members of the Armed Forces community get access to service and support in line with the obligations of the Armed Forces Covenant. They will be there to signpost and support those who are currently serving or have served to give advice on how to access the most appropriate services for them.

Street and Walton Men's Shed

Men’s Sheds encourage people to come together to make, repair and repurpose, supporting projects in their local communities. The Street & Walton Men's Shed will be at the event to provide information on their projects and how to join, as well as providing information about the other 20 Sheds in Somerset.

ManKind Initiative
The Mankind Initiative is a specialist charity in the UK focusing on male victims of domestic abuse working in close partnership with other organisations and practitioners. They'll be at the event to raise awareness of domestic abuse for male victims and survivors, show what services they offer here in Somerset and also what else is available both locally and nationally.

Talk Club

A UK male mental health charity helping men to improve their mental health. They prefer to use the term ‘mental fitness,’ because their talking groups actively help men to understand how they’re feeling by asking ‘How are you? Out of 10?’ then explaining why. It helps to build resilience, and the numbers prove it.

Healthwatch Somerset

Healthwatch Somerset gathers and shares people’s stories about health and social care services in Somerset to help improve them, offering information and advice to help you get the support you need. As an independent statutory body, they have the power to make sure that NHS leaders and other decision makers listen to your feedback and use it to improve standards of care. They will be providing information and advice to people and signposting them to other services that can help them get the support they need. Their current key project is investigating the information available to unpaid carers in Somerset.

Glastonbury Town Council will be providing information on the restoration of St Dunstan’s House and the addition of a new atrium at Glastonbury Town Hall to create a new community health and wellbeing centre in the town.

Victoria Club

A community-focused sports and social club offering a variety of facilities and activities, including bowls, boccia, croquet, tennis and squash.
