Molly's Masquerade Spring Gathering

The Spring Gathering on the 1st April will bring together all the elements of the Mollies project to celebrate the end of winter. What a winter it has been. April 2021 will mark the end of a year of lockdowns and isolation. Can we take this trauma and create a positive change in the world? While we all desperately seek a return to a sense of normality, we can all agree that the status quo isn’t good enough.

Our Spring ritual seeks to celebrate and commemorate our queer ancestors, calls for an end to hostile narratives toward’s womxn and sex worker’s, calls for an end to institutionalized racism and to address the cries for help due to housing poverty in London.

The molly dolls, a memorial to the mollies of all genders, will lead the procession in song from the molly house on the Whitechapel Road to St Margaret’s House, the evening will be accompanied by talks, rehearsed reading and performances from the various molly creative groups.

Our Molly Spring Ritual is about remembering the sacrifices by the mollies in the past, building resilience and strengthening the bonds in our communities for growth and renewal.

This will be a walking procession, (weather permitting), starting in Whitechapel and finishing in St Margaret’s House. Full details will be sent in mid-March 2021.

This event is a part of the Heritage Lottery and Arts Council England funded project at St. Margaret's House, Bethnal Green. In memory of our 18th century queer ancestors the sessions will work towards a sharing at the Molly's Masquerade Spring Gathering on April 1st, and the Molly's Masquerade ball in summer 2021
