The Fixed Stars

Tuesday, August 3 at 6 p.m. :: Live Outside Elliott Bay on 10th Avenue

One year ago, beloved Seattle writer Molly Wizenberg launched her transformative memoir, The Fixed Stars with Elliott Bay - what was pretty much a first for she and we, as it was early in the regimen of online programs we have gotten familiar with in the past year. We are still a little ways away from fully embarking on inside, in-store programs again, though they are on the horizon. Meanwhile, it is August, and Molly Wizenberg’s beautiful book is now to be launched in its paperback form (Abrams Press). What better way to make a loop of this, than to celebrate with people actually gathered? This will be outside Elliott Bay - the street will be closed, and there will be a section of seating in place. The program will be jointly celebrated with neighboring restaurants Oddfellows Cafe, Lost Lake Cafe and Lounge, and Poquitos. They will be offering special drinks, and will be open as the evening goes along.

The Fixed Stars, which chronicles Molly Wizenberg’s awakening to a different way of sexual attraction, to following where that led with a caring, open heart, and then moving into a different way of living with grace and insight, has been a reader favorite ever since it was first released. Now, with the paperback, it should find even more readers. "The Fixed Stars is a nuanced look into two subjects frequently depicted as binary: love and sexuality. Wizenberg writes of her journey into queerness with tenderness and curiosity, two essential qualities for any sort of entry into new lands. This book spoke directly to my heart. Read it."— Esmé Weijun Wang. "In The Fixed Stars, Molly Wizenberg tackles the ever-shifting issues of marriage, motherhood, and sexual orientation with the same compassion and unflinching honesty that have become the hallmarks of her writing. She makes the everyday extraordinary and brings depth and complexity to the bigger questions in life. A beautiful read."— Erica Bauermeister. Molly Wizenberg is also the author of A Homemade Life, Delancey, and the award-winning blog Orangette.

Joining Molly onstage in conversation will be Seattle author Matthew Amster-Burton, who co-hosts, with Molly, the comedy podcast Spilled Milk. His books include Pretty Good Number One, Hungry Monkey, and Our Secret Better Lives.
