On Friday 10th January 2020, Mollie Hughes, the Edinburgh-based adventurer and motivational speaker entered the Guinness World Record books by becoming the youngest woman in the world to ski solo from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole. She was 29 at the time.
Overcoming weeklong whiteouts, storm-force winds and temperatures of minus 45C, Mollie reached the Geographic South Pole having skied alone for 58 days and across 702 miles and pulling her 105kg sled full of supplies – the equivalent weight of an international rugby player.
This was Mollie’s second world record, as in May 2017 she became the youngest woman in the world and the first English woman to summit Mount Everest from both the north and south sides, at the age of 26.
Back home in Scotland, Mollie runs an ethical adventure company called Ocean Vertical and she is the first female president of Scouts Scotland. Mollie also recently published her book Blue Scotland: The Ultimate Guide to Exploring Scotland’s Wild Waters.
Alan Nash aka Get After It Nashy will be interviewing Mollie about her experiences. Copies of Blue Scotland will be available for sale on the day and Mollie is happy to personalise and sign copies.
Tickets are only £10 and children under 12 can attend free but must be registered and accompanied by an adult. Available via Eventbrite link below.
