SYNOPSIS
Korda’s 2026 season opens with renowned French playwright Molière's most masterful and most frequently performed play, skillfully translated into English by Richard Wilbur. A brilliant scathing satire by one of the true masters of comedy, TARTUFFE tells the hilarious story of Orgon, a wealthy, gullible man who brings into his home Tartuffe, an impoverished, “holy” man, a lying religious hypocrite whose piety hides his greed, lust, covetousness and just about all of the other deadly sins. Tartuffe attempts to rob Orgon of his wife, his daughter, his money, his home and his freedom. Orgon’s wife, children, brother-in-law and maid all try to thwart Tartuffe’s evil plans, but will they be able to save Orgon from his own foolish devotion?
“…an astonishingly delightful romp…” – New York Post.
“Stylish, bright, saucy.” – New York Journal-American.
“…a rollicking evening of grace and fun.” – Newsday (NY).
