Molecules: a portrait of a community! A Portage, Michigan community art project that wants YOU to join us!
You and your unique skills are building blocks to our Portage and Southwest Michigan community!
You are invited to create a "molecular self portrait" out of wire and recycled materials, like old book pages; choosing "elements" and colors that represent what you bring to our group. We'll make "molecules" as a self portrait--getting a visually poetic with a flavor of science!
We will display these molecules together as a larger piece, celebrating our similarities, uniqueness, and how we all contribute to our neighborhood. Put together in a window or somewhere to catch the light, you'll see a colorful "mobile" of molecules to brighten up the gray months and remind us how all of us are needed.
Participation is free, drop-in hours listed here and on the PDL website.
Southwest Michigan artist Anna Barnhart leads the project and will be available during the drop-in hours for instruction. Adults and kids welcome!!
There are also two workshops presented by the maker-in-residence during the project-- paint a bookbag and make a collage!
