Learn the fine art of moldmaking utilizing resin, silicone and stone. Understand how to approach this craft, learning how to properly prep and use industry sculpting tools. Learn musculature, wrinkles and anatomy. Utilizing solvents, heat and other techniques, Lee will show you how to create realistic skin texture and prep your sculpture for moldmaking. You can bring your own sculpture on a 3/4 lifecast to mold if you did not take the previous Sculpting for Silicone Prosthetics class.You can bring your own sculpture on a 3/4 lifecast to mold if you did not take the previous Sculpting for Silicone Prosthetics class.
This class requires a sculpture on a 3/4 lifecast. You can bring your own or the sculpture created in the previous Sculpting for Silicone Appliances week.

About this event:
Class Goal – The Moldmaker’s chief role is to serve as the practical bridge from the sculptor to the prosthetic Skin Maker, making a negative mold of the positive sculpture, ending with a final tool with which to create the prosthetic skin from. You will learn to understand the necessities of the project in relation to the individual design and understand the sculptures limitations regarding undercuts and rigid mold material options. Each student will create a mold of their existing sculpture on a 3/4 rigid lifecast (with ears or without, stopping at the halfway point on the sides of theneck) and learn how to evaluate and prep a sculpture for molding, how to create the various layers of the mold, how to finish and refine the final mold and open and clean for final silicone skin insertion.
- Understand the materials used in the processes of higher tier mold making
- Learn complex mold making techniques
- Lecture upon the history of mold making in film and television, and its relationship with other departments during production
- Understand lab etiquette, logistics and how to work with a team
- Understand proper key creation, techniques for working with water-based clay and mold walls
- Understand complex and bespoke moldmaking techniques
- Understand budgeting a mold making job, selecting materials and additional help
- Lecture upon advanced techniques like vacuum bagging, fiberglass chopper guns, breakaway cores and other advanced techniques
- Understand polymers, the types of resins and silicones available, and when to use them
- Understand pouring methods and troubleshooting silicone usage
- Demonstrate knowledge of lab order and hygiene when working with lab equipment

LAB FEE ($250.00 non-refundable)
The Lab fee covers the cost of clay, solvents and lab material. You will need to bring your own sculpting tools (a list will be provided of recommended sculpting tools).
LMA will be providing all lab material needed in the classroom (covered by the lab fee), but you will be responsible for putting together your own sculpting tool kit. We will email you a materials list for items needed outside of the lab materials. Students receive a student discount at Frends Beauty on the items that they might need.

Parking is provided at the location.
We do recommend Uber/Lyft or being dropped off if you can arrange it.
HEALTH
Staff, instructors and models are fully vaccinated. The classroom will be setup with current industry standards in regards to hygiene and Covid protocols.
