About this Event

Join us at Bird in Hand for an evening of powerful poetry as Moira Egan and Allison Wilkins Bakken share work from their latest collections.

Allison Wilkins' manuscript House of Broken Tables won the 2025 Donna Wolf Palacio Poetry Prize, and Moira Egan's The Furies comes out on the date of this event! Highlighting the value of solidarity and collective strength among women, they bring to life women in myths from Arachne to Echo, from Medusa and Mary Magdalene to the female characters of The Odyssey. Egan deploys exuberant wordplay and traditional poetic forms to subvert the patriarchal canon. At the heart of the book is a profound exploration of voice, not least the ongoing silencing of women’s voices: she blends righteous anger with grief, ultimately finding hope in the transformative power of language.
