About this Event

Historic Aircraft Wrecks in the Bay Area

The San Francisco Bay Area is ringed with airports as well as coastal foothills and mountains. Bad weather and errors in navigation have caused the loss of hundreds of aircraft during the past century, each one a tragedy in its own right. Researching and documenting these crash sites and remembering those who perished has become a pursuit for many.

Join us on Wednesday, June 26, for a lunch and learn discussion of “Historic Aircraft Wrecks in the Bay Area” with author and researcher Nicholas A. Veronico. Veronico will detail what happened to British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines DC-6B Resolution that was carrying “America’s Mozart,” the 20-year pursuit of the crash of a Navy R4D during a storm in March 1945, and a number of others. His latest book, Wreckchasing 102: Exploring Military and Commercial Aircraft Crash Sites is available in the museum gift shop.

Nicholas A. Veronico has had a long association with Moffett Field, having been a NASA contractor for the past 25 years. While at NASA Ames, Veronico worked in Supercomputing, the Exploration Technology Directorate, Public Affairs, and for the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). He is the author of Images of America: Moffett Field and 45 other books on art history, civil and military aviation, Navy and nautical subjects, and a number of local history books.
