About this Event
Join the Chicago Chapter of Docomomo US in association with Forgotten Chicago for an exclusive walking tour of Peterson Avenue. Celebrating Docomomo’s 2021 theme of Travel & Leisure, our tour will include one of Chicago’s best neon restaurant signs and an auto-oriented motel from the Modern Movement.
Peterson Avenue on Chicago’s North Side developed in a different manner than almost any other major street in the city. This exclusive walking tour will examine the area’s history and development, with many buildings remarkably intact and some of the best examples of 1950s and 1960s vernacular commercial architecture in the Midwest.
This walking tour will include about 2.5 miles of walking, starting near the intersection of Peterson and Western Avenues. At the starting point, paid street parking is available, and there is free non-permit parking available two blocks north on Granville Avenue. The tour will end near Pulaski; if guests have parked near the starting point they can take a CTA bus or ride share back to their vehicles.
Following the tour, guests are welcome to join us at Alarmist Brewing & Taproom for a cash bar and complimentary light snacks.
We hope to see you as we celebrate Travel & Leisure, Chicago-style!
