In this five week series, kiddos 2-5 will learn about influential modern artists and explore modern art through stories and art projects. Each class will start with an age appropriate story or short lesson on relevant artists then caregivers and children will work together to create an art piece in the style of the artists discussed. Artists include, but are not limited to: Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Georgia O’Keeffe, Iris Apfel, Frank Lloyd Wright and Jean-Michel Basquiat.Week 1: Intro to colors. Artist: Picasso. Project based on Picasso’s Blue Period (mixed media on canvas)
Week 2: Pop Art. Artists: Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. Project based on Haring silhouettes (pencil and oil crayon on butcher paper)
Week 3: Shapes in Art. Artists: Frank Lloyd Wright and Wassily Kandinsky. Project focused on shapes. (stained "glass")
Week 4: Fashion. Artists: Iris Apfel, Vivienne Westwood. Project based on Apfel’s experiments with fabric scraps. (fabric and safety pins, fabric glue)
Week 5: Nature. Artists: Frida Kahlo and Georgia O’Keefe. Project focused on self portraits/flowers. (printed photo and tissue paper)
