About this Event
Michelangelo Sabatino, a renowned architectural historian and professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology (ITT), presents a book talk on “Modern in the Middle: Chicago Houses 1929-1975.” Co-authored with fellow architectural historian Susan Benjamin, this book explores the significant yet often overlooked influence of Chicago and its suburbs on the development of modern single-family houses during the mid-twentieth century. Sabatino’s extensive background in architecture and preservation, coupled with his recognition as a top design influencer, promises an engaging and insightful discussion on the architectural, social, and economic history of the Chicago area. The Barrington area is a nexus of these homes including designs from noteworthy architects Frank Lloyd Wright, Keck & Keck, Ed Dart, and Harry Weese. Dart and Weese both lived in Barrington and were prolific designers.
This event is paired with a tour of mid-century modern homes, the “Mid Mod Barrington” tour, and a fundraiser held by the Barrington Area Council on Aging. This tour will be held on Saturday, October 19th and tickets can be purchased here.
